Eric Van Horn, Communications Director
Originally from Lincoln, Eric Van Horn attended Iowa State University to study materials engineering. But after campaigning for Governor Howard Dean during the 2004 Iowa caucuses and for Senator John Kerry during that year’s general election, he changed his focus to economics, political science, and math.
Before leaving college, Eric had interned at Earthjustice and taken courses in political management at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He also attended the New Organizing Institute, a progressive campaign training dedicated to finding innovative ways to use the internet for political organizing, fundraising, and communications.
After graduation from Iowa State in 2006, Eric returned to Nebraska to manage the NDP Coordinated Campaign’s field office in Grand Island.
Eric was hired as a Field Organizer for the NDP in January 2007. In addition to other projects, he was heavily involved in the planning, organizing, and execution of Nebraska’s first-ever Democratic Caucus. Upon completion of the caucus, Eric took over the role of Party spokesman in addition to his Field Organizer duties; he made the transition to Communications Director in July 2008.
He now resides in Lincoln.
