Rove: 2008 Senate Race Not Competitive
Mar 29, 03:40 PM CST
Yesterday, Iowa Congressman Bruce Braley questioned Lurita Doan, head of the General Services Administration, during the House Oversight Committee’s investigation of her organization. The investigation was intended to (and did) uncover gross misuse of GSA time and resources.
It seems that the White House Office of Political Affairs, headed by Karl Rove, presented GSA executives with a list of targeted House and Senate races for 2008. The GSA was tasked with finding a way to use its resources – taxpayers’ money – to help Republican candidates.
Misuse of funds by a Bush appointee? That’s not exactly groundbreaking. But here’s the slide that caught my eye:

Yeah, that’s Nebraska, listed as “Not Competitive” in 2008.
It seems that Karl underestimates us. I find that hard to believe, given how we trounced his candidate by 28% just last November.
You can click here to see the full video. It’s pretty long, but definitely worth a watch.
If we’re going to prove Karl wrong, we need to get to work. There are a lot of things you can do to get started. Become a sustaining donor. Sign up to be a precinct coordinator. Come meet Howard Dean in April.
There’s always something that we can be doing to build our party. And if we put our minds to it, I have no doubt that we will show Karl what’s up in 2008.

I can’t speak for past campaigns as I lived out of state for a while, but Nelson didn’t beat Ricketts because of some fantastic job done on our part. Nelson won because Ricketts is a political wimp not near ready for the big stage, his campaign made so many mistakes they woulda done better burning all the money they spent having s’mores parties with voters and their commercials made him look even more sophemoric than he actually is. If David Kramer had won the Republican nomination Nelson and Co. would have had a tough fight on their hands.
You want to gain some seats in 2008, actually help out Jim Esch this time… and find a charismatic Moderate or Conservative Democrat and hope Bruning or Hagel makes a mistake.
