Nunn/Hagel or Chuck on Bass?
Aug 20, 08:39 PM CST
Now that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided that running for President isn’t such a good idea, the Bloomberg/Hagel ticket appears to be no more. After all, it was never clear if Hagel would really let Bloomberg take the wheel or if he thought he should be the one in the driver’s seat.
So, is Nunn/Hagel now a possibility?
Over the weekend it was revealed that former Senator Sam Nunn (D-Georgia) has been in discussions with Unity08, a group of Democrats and Republicans who are trying to find an independent, bipartisan “dream ticket.” The group has apparently met with approximately 50 potential candidates and features their own Law and Order tie-in, spokesperson Sam Waterston.
Potential candidates, including Chuck Hagel.

That according to Perry Bacon, Jr. of the Washington Post blog “The Trail” who says Hagel is “one of several dozen would-be candidates whom the group has briefed about the mechanics of running outside of the two-party structure.”
Hagel has kept a noticeably quiet recess schedule this month. Normally, if he was going to run for re-election (or even President), we would see the Senator appearing in more visible places than GOP cake walks, Husker football practices and 2015 Visioning Group briefings.
Even Hal Daub is driving around the state pretending to listen to Nebraskans. But not our Sunday-Weekday friend.
Nebraska media are starting to openly predict that a retirement announcement is pending. In his weekly column this morning, Don Walton wrote that “mounting circumstantial evidence points toward the likelihood Chuck Hagel will not seek re-election…”
So, what’s he going to do? I have no idea. What I do know is that he grows less and less relevant as the days go by. After all, the GOP’s only hope appears to be a has-been actor who hasn’t been tested on any national stage. Would they really go for the flip-flopping Hagel who votes with the same President he wants to impeach?
Maybe Dave Nabity can get Chuck a gig with his smooth jazz band, Higher Pursuit?

I’m sure they could make beautiful music together.

Under Gore, Bin Laden would be dead or in prison. The Taliban defeated and Iraq would have remained no threat to the USA as it was after 1991.
I hope President Edwards puts him in charge of a world wide effort to solve global warming.
