The Serial Quitter

Nebraska Democratic Party State Chair Steve Achelpohl released the following statement regarding the resignation of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns:

“Mike Johanns has yet to find a job he didn’t want to leave. After serving only two years on the Lincoln City Council, he left that job to run for Mayor of Lincoln. He left his responsibilities as Mayor to run for Governor. He left that job to head up a Washington bureaucracy. Should he be elected to yet another office, Nebraska voters will undoubtedly wonder how long it will take for Johanns to lose interest in that job as well.”

“When President Bush appointed him as Ag Secretary, the people of Nebraska had high hopes that he would represent them. Unfortunately, the Secretary has turned his back on farmers and ranchers repeatedly, most recently walking away from a critical farm bill. Instead of representing the interests of Nebraska farmers and ranchers, he has been a voice for tobacco and other corporate farmers, the Club for Growth and the failed policies of an unpopular president.”

  1. Your attacks on Mike Johanns are pathetic. Take a look at what you have written. Everytime Johanns has resigned from a position of office, it was to run for a higher position, where he could do more for Nebraskans. Johanns did a great Job as Governor & did more for Nebraska farmers and all of America’s farmers as Secretary of Agriculture than any of the previous people who have held that position. Due to Federal laws, Mike Johanns could not pursue the Senate race as Secretary of Agriculture. So for him to resign near the end of his term, makes since. He cares about the best interests of Nebraskans & is the only candidate that will truly represent Nebraska in the Senate. Next time you want to attack someone for being a serrial quitter, take a look at your very own Ben Nelson!

  2. I think this is a legitimate concern to be truthful Travis. Ben Nelson has always finished what he promised us then he ran for another office. Mike Johanns doesn’t have the patience to at least attempt to fill out his term. Which brings in serious doubt about his capabilities of being an elected official.
