The Magical Avoidance Tour

Oct 10, 11:13 AM CST

Nebraska Democratic Party State Chair Steve Achelpohl released the following statement regarding Mike Johanns’ announcement of his candidacy today:

“Mike Johanns has already demonstrated what kind of U.S. Senator he would be. When he went to Washington, he left his Nebraska values behind. Nebraskans were optimistic that he would represent them in Washington as he took on the job of Agriculture Secretary. Instead, he became a steady mouthpiece for the failing administration of George W. Bush.”

“Under his watch, he failed to provide Nebraska with necessary drought relief assistance. Under his watch, he failed to pass a farm bill, the most important duty of any Agriculture Secretary. Instead, he quit his job, leaving the bill in limbo. And, under his watch, he authorized the closure of 10 FSA offices throughout the state which will place a burden on many Nebraskans.”

“Nebraskans are eager for leadership from people who aren’t afraid to stand by their decisions and explain why they made them. Unfortunately, Mike Johanns has already shown us that he will do anything to avoid such explanations. That includes rewriting the history of his advocacy for Bush’s positions on hot button issues.”

  1. I entirely agree with this statement. Johanns has abandoned this state. He continuely quits the office he holds to advance his own political career. What does that say about how he would act as a Senator? Self before State? That’s not what I want to see from my senator.
