NDP Staff Head East to Assist and Learn from Iowa Democrats

Several members of the Nebraska Democratic Party staff headed to Iowa earlier this week to assist in the nation’s first caucus. They will be working with staff from the Iowa Democratic Party, helping to organize caucus operations in the final days and tabulate the results.

While assisting caucus operations in Iowa, NDP staff will be focused on observing and learning as much as possible in the next few days. They will then bring those observations and that knowledge back to Nebraska in advance of our state’s own Democratic Presidential Caucuses on Saturday, February 9, 2008.

“Iowa has been conducting caucuses for many years and they have a system that works very well,” said Matt Connealy, Executive Director of the Nebraska Democratic Party. “We want to ensure that our caucuses run as smoothly as possible and spending time with our colleagues to the east can only help that process.”

On Saturday, February 9th, Democrats throughout Nebraska will gather in neighborhoods to elect delegates to county conventions by presidential preference. In doing so, Nebraskans will have a voice in the nominating process for the first time since the 1960’s.
