Achelpohl Won't Seek Re-Election
Jan 09, 10:58 AM CST
Nebraska Democratic Party State Chair Steve Achelpohl announced today that he will not seek another term.
Achelpohl became chair of the NDP in 2001 after Anne Boyle stepped down from the post. He was re-elected by acclamation in 2002, 2004 and 2006. His current term will end in December. A new State Chair will be elected at the state convention this summer.
“It has been a tremendous honor to serve Nebraska Democrats in this role,” said Achelpohl. “We have accomplished much as a Party together. I will always value the many great friendships formed during my years as state chair. ”
During his tenure as chair, the Party has grown into a 21st century professional campaign services organization. Achelpohl introduced new technology, hired a professional staff and streamlined many processes throughout the organization.
Through Achelpohl’s leadership, the Party elected Democratic mayors in the state’s two largest cities, re-elected Nebraska’s Senator Ben Nelson by a wide margin and increased the Party’s presence in the Unicameral.
