Nebraska Republicans and Independents Switching Parties to Participate in Nebraska Caucus

The Nebraska Democratic Party has noted a growing trend in the state as more and more Republicans and Independents seek information on how to switch their party affiliation. Many Nebraskans are joining the Democratic Party to participate in the Nebraska Democratic Presidential Caucuses on February 9, 2008.

In order to caucus on that Saturday, Nebraskans must be a registered Democrat. If an individual comes to the caucus who is not a registered Democrat, they may fill out a voter registration form at the caucus site. Those forms will then be presented to the local county election official for processing.

In Iowa and New Hampshire, Independent and Republican cross-over voters played a major role in their early nominating contests.

“We’ve been pleasantly surprised by the number of Republicans and Independents who have expressed an interest in joining us,” said Matt Connealy, Executive Director of the Nebraska Democratic Party. “This speaks to the strength of our Presidential candidates and the desire of Nebraskans to be involved in the process.”
