  11. Good call, M Allen. This is the guy who should be president. Mr. Carroll, I’d be all for a female president as well if it wasn’t Hillary. If she were to get elected, which won’t happen, you’d have to go back to Reagan to find the last president who wasn’t a Clinton or Bush. Hillary has too many ties to how Washington has been for too long. We need change!
Patrick Sittner    Feb 05, 05:07 PM CST #
  12. Yeah. This is want we were hoping for. New life is being breathed into the Nebraska Democratic Party. Thanks Barack.

  14. People and politics do not stand still. Bill and Hillary are heroic figures whom I hold in high reguard. Now however is no longer their time and place to lead. Obama is the right person at the right time. . I have heard him speak and while I am from the Clintons time he is speaking to me with a clear and compelling voice.

James Cohen    Feb 06, 07:16 AM CST #
  20. Ho hum!
ABB – ANYONE BUT BARACK! Even the wacky Kucinich had clear positions on the issues; it’s a pity that Obama didn’t learn anything from the campaign. Empty rhetoric, lots of words and very, very little substance – Barack sounds like another version of George McGovern!
    Harrison    Feb 06, 07:26 AM CST #
  21. And what’s the point. Go Hillary. Never even heard of him till a year ago. We need an experienced President to put this nation back together.

    Yes. We. Can.
Karla Mullen Laughlin    Feb 06, 09:18 AM CST #
  24. I’ve had the chance to see both Hillary and Barack in Council Bluffs. Barack sounds good, but Hillary has the plans to put our country back on track. It’s time for a change. Go Hillary!
    Bettie    Feb 06, 09:27 AM CST #
  25. Barack is our Everyman leader. He is the epitomy of the American dream. He has built himself from someone like you or me to a viable candidate for U.S. presidency. He could be the very heartbeat of our Nation, and people are worried about sideline experience? A natural leader, he can inspire individuals to work for the greater good, which is a rare trait indeed. Fact is, he has policy ideas just like everyone else, but he knows, just like we do, that unless you take into consideration what all parties consider important, then nothing will be “accomplished”, or voted into action. He won’t promise things that are impossible to promise, and I respect that. He is logical; he is fair. He is a bright and positive light in an otherwise dim political scope that’s littered with broken promises and spirits. I’m leery of a candidate who is too confident of what they’re going to make happen – compromise is key, and that’s something Obama understands. By listening to everyone’s opinions – Rep & Dem & Ind – he offers respect for everyone’s views and affiliations, which is a rare but beautiful quality in a politician.
    Annie D    Feb 06, 09:39 AM CST #
  26. Barack is running on the same Platform as George W. Bush did against Gore. W Bush was touting that he was going to bring change and help unify…he also claimed that his inexperience was an asset because he would be seen as an “outsider”. Barack is running on the EXACT same platform. Is Karl Rove running his campaign. Wouldn’t surprise me. After all, Barack is the only hope the republicans have to win in 2008. Do we really want another inexperienced person in the White House? W Bush showed us what inexperience buys us. Please vote for the candidate the is QUALIFIED for the job—Hillary Clinton. McCain will pocket ALL of the independent voters. If anyone has shown the world that they can vote across the aisles…it is John McCain. What will Barack say he has done across the aisles. I am tired of Democrats falling for this Republican ploy. They all love Barack. Barack will also eliminate the important jewish vote from the general election. Don’t forget, Barack Hussein Obama went to muslim schools. I am a muslim myself, so it doesn’t bother me…but it will bother a LOT of others. Enough of this marshmellow “inspiration” stuff. Lets get back to reality.
    Nousha    Feb 06, 09:43 AM CST #
  27. I would love to see Barack in person but I’m stuck in Norfolk and have class until 3:00 pm so its a no go for me. Now I’m bummed. I do agree with others who have said that we need someone beside a Clinton. Come one do we really want to do Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton? Sounds to me a bit too much like a dynasty for my tastes.
    Kathy    Feb 06, 09:46 AM CST #

  30. On The Job Training for U.S. Presidency… it’s not the right time for Obama. He’ll be President someday I hope, but just not now. Please don’t gamble with this primary.
    PDC    Feb 06, 11:02 AM CST #
  31. I would like to know more about Barak Obama’s credentials. I have found Hilary Clinton’s background qualifications on her website but could not find Obama’s credentials on any of his websites. Therefore my vote will have to go to Hilary Clinton
Donna Bilderback    Feb 06, 11:17 AM CST #
  32. Our country is in dire straits! An inexperienced leader is not what we need to get us out of this mess—GW Bush showed us that! My faith and trust can only go to Hillary Clinton, the most experienced candidate who has a plan to bring my son, and the thousands of other men and women, home safely from Iraq, and the vision and promise to get our beautiful Country back on the right track. Good luck, Hillary. You have my vote!

  33. This is the most action this blog has seen in a long time.
    M    Feb 06, 12:09 PM CST #
  34. I don’t know if I get a kick out of it or if it’s just another example of the damage done to us and our country in the last eight years. This is NOT the Bush/Cheney-ites! You don’t need to submit to a background check or swear alligence to the Party to get tickets, everyone is welcome!
    Jacquie    Feb 06, 01:22 PM CST #
  35. I can certainly understand how people can listen to Obama and be inspired! However, charisma is not a quality I regard highly for President. GW has loads of charisma. He too can deliver stirring speeches, and what has all that inspiration gotten us. Obama talks a lot about hope and inspiration, however, I find that his policy stands lack concrete steps toward change. Anyone can promise anything, being ready with a solid plan to get it done is what it is going to take to fix this mess.
I would love to see a Clinton/Obama ticket. I think Clinton is a lot more direct; her plans more solid. I think she knows what to expect the day AFTER the election. As well as day 1 or day 1000 in office. Likewise, I believe that Obama has a good deal of diplomacy and would be effective as a Vice-President.
Most importantly, I feel that Democrats should really step out this cycle and promote unity within the party. It is unity within the party that will help undecided/independant voters make their decisions. GO CLINTON/OBAMA 08!!!
    Mary    Feb 06, 01:23 PM CST #

  38. You people speak as if Hillary has had massive amounts of experience. Being on the board of WalMart and First Lady does not lift her to God status.
    Tim    Feb 06, 02:13 PM CST #
  39. I am still torn between the 2. Hillary has more ‘Experience’ but BOTH are ‘Qualified’ (MUCH more so than Bush so don’t even compare the 2!) The 1 thing I can’t get out of my head is how can I vote Hillary when she fell for that BS that got us into this war in the first place & he didn’t? No, that doesn’t make him more qualified to get us out, but it sure does make him smarter. Plus, I am willing to bet Obama can get more Republican & Independent votes than Clinton & We need to win this One guys!!
    Kim    Feb 06, 02:16 PM CST #
  40. Obama is exciting and we need change and we need to end the chain of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton.
    Shay    Feb 06, 02:22 PM CST #
  41. Hillary has the credentials and the experience to lead this country out of the big mess it is in. Barak is inspirational and a great orator, but just not ready yet. The media loves to scrutinize Hillary while giving Barak a free pass. If you put the “pretty words” and the media spin aside and really look at the merits of both candidates, to me it is a no-brainer. This country needs Hillary. not someone who will require on the job training or leaves the management of government to his advisors. We already hade 8 years of that with Bush-Cheney! Let Barak continue to gather his experience. He will be a greater candidate after Hillary’s 8 years are up!
    Lourdes    Feb 06, 03:02 PM CST #
  42. I’m very excited to attend this with my mom, husband and as many friends as I can drag with. Obama already has my vote on Saturday, and i’m happy to help him try to get more!
    Erin    Feb 06, 03:36 PM CST #
  43. The simple truth is We Democrats have TWO great candidates for Pres. The opposition have only more damage for America. Have fun at the caucuses. Geez, CNN just called Nebraska a “Critical State.” Last time I heard that, it was the 90’s and football was the subject. Let’s save the best of our attacks for the human slime who wrecked our country’s economy, Constitution, and world standing.
Steve Hollister    Feb 06, 04:35 PM CST #
  44. I REALLY hope I will be able to attend! I am not fully decided on Hillary or Barack, I like Obama’s personality and speaking much better, but Clinton’s experience and intense leadership is also attractive in a leader of “change”. Sure hope I can go…I’m sure it will be amazing.
    Emily    Feb 06, 04:45 PM CST #

    Ray    Feb 06, 07:16 PM CST #
  48. If the goal is the White House…. then Obama has to be the nominee. Just listen to all the Republican pundits who readily admit that Obama would be more difficult to beat than Hillary. Hillary is just too divisive, and would have a difficult time winning over independents and republicans.
    Melissa G.    Feb 06, 07:59 PM CST #
  49. I’m going with Hillary… but if Obama does win I will most definitely vote for him over a Republican in November.
Ken Peterson    Feb 06, 08:14 PM CST #
  50. JUST A REMINDER TO NEBRASKA, WE NEED AN INSPIRATIONAL AND EXPIERENCED LEADER LIKE Hillary, not an inspirational leader that would have to get on the job training on the first day at the white house. WE ALREADY HAD ONE FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT MESS WE ARE IN NOW.
Rudy Castaneda    Feb 06, 08:31 PM CST #
  51. I am sorry Obama, but I cannot vote for anyone whose name sounds like Osama. Does no one see the that??? GO HILLARY!!! Even Hillary knows that the problems Bush has created are for the birds! She will get us back on track!!
    jm    Feb 06, 08:48 PM CST #
  52. Being married to the President is the next best thing to experience you can get, she saw it all, and knows how to run this country. No she does not have GOD status, but she does have AMERICAN beliefs, that is more than I can say for the guy, whose name rhymes with Osama! That speaks terrorism to me, and therefore will not get my vote. I want my children and their children to be able to see this world, and terrorism could bring it to an end…

  55. There is not enough money nor exaggerated and glorified rhetoric that would get me to listen to any speech by Obama! I heard him in Des Moines – HO HUM! Jimmy Swaggart and Rev. Al Sharpton have a much clearer message; the added bonus in hearing these two men is they know HOW to deliver a message. There is nothing of any substance in any of Obama’s speeches. It’s going to be ANYONE BUT BARACK for a lot of folks. If OB is able to get the nomination, many Nebraska Democrats will be voting Republican!
    Harrison    Feb 06, 10:40 PM CST #
  56. How ironic that in 1968 George Wallace held his “presidential convention” at the Omaha Civic and now 40 years later Senator Obama, running for President, will hold speak there.
    Terry    Feb 06, 11:45 PM CST #
  57. The fact that people seem to have forgotten that they said Bill Clinton was too young and inexperienced and now his wife uses that exact same thing against Barack and people fall for it erks me to no end! WAKE UP! Hiprocrisy is something that needs to be eliminated from politics!!!
    Kris    Feb 07, 06:54 AM CST #
  58. WE do not need Hilary for a president think she has way to high of spending ideas. she her self has said there is not enough money for all her plans and ideas.Obama has the morales and class that the clintons do not have. He has my vote but don’t want to see Hilary as a vice at all.I dont think he could live with her.
Connie Johnson    Feb 07, 07:11 AM CST #
  59. Wow, talk about negative campaigns… Maybe the Hillary folks should come to the rally just to know what a positive campaign feels like? What HOPE feels like?

  60. Thank You, Senator Obama for coming to Omaha. The fact you are coming in person definitely shows the contrast between you and the Clinton’s who are sending their daughter. Again it appears the Clintons are again snubbing Nebraska for its “redness”. I have not made my mind up yet, but your gesture in coming here has gained my respect.

  61. I wanted to take a moment today and express to you one of the reasons I am supporting Barack Obama. Let me start by saying I know Barack and Barack knows me. During his campaign foe US Senate I had the opportunity to meet Barack 3 times, twice during stops to McLean county Illinois and once during a visit he made to western Illinois. I was impressed with the fact that his message was always the same; it did not change with the audience as other candidates often do. That is why I say I know Barack Obama. Now let me share with you why I feel he knows me. This July while my mother was visiting from Florida, we made a trip to Keokuk Iowa my and my mothers home of birth. We went to visit the many family members we have in Keokuk. Keokuk is a small town of probably 12,000 people in the southeast corner of Iowa. While we there I was told that Barack Obama was going to speak at Hawthorn grade school in Keokuk. I was very excited to be able to take my family and my message of support to this event. It was a very hot July day and the event was to be held outside to allow for a large crowd. There was a large crowd, over 1000 people stood in the heat waiting for the Senator to arrive to speak to the I wanted to take a moment today and express to you one of the reasons I am supporting Barack Obama in the primary tomorrow. The senator met with members of the Lee County Iowa party inside the school and then came out to greet the crowd from the bed of a farm truck. As he stood there thanking the citizens of this small community he saw me standing with 50 members of my family. At that moment to my delight he said as he pointed “there’s my friend from McLean County”. He had remembered me from the days of his Senatorial campaign and it caught me completely off guard. Since this event I have followed this man and I must say his message of hope and change has never changed. I must say to you at this moment in time we need someone who remembers his message and the ordinary people he meets wherever he goes. So you see I know Barack Obama and Barack Obama knows me, Barack Obama. Please help me and support Barack Obama because you see he also knows you.

  63. Regardless who the Democratic candidate is, I’m voting for her/ him. Currently I’m in Hillary’s corner but I’m going to hear what Obama has to say. However, I doubt it will sway me. As for the fear of a Bush/ Clinton dynasty if Clinton wins, one must remember that when the Bushes were in office, our country failed miserably. But when it was Bill’s turn, he turned our deficit into a surplus and was brilliant when it came to foreign policies. Who do you think was there by his side learning and helping him make decisions? Hillary. She has the experience and intelligence (which has clearly been absent the last 7 years) I want running this country. I want the respect of the rest of the world again. I think she can bring that back.

  66. I am so thrilled to be in the quandry I am in—2 extremely qualified and motivational candidates to chose from! I, too, would love to see a Clinton/Obama ticket; I think they would compliment each other well. Right now I’m 90% decided on Clinton, but I’ll see what happens at the caucus. I like Obama’s charisma, but I really like that Clinton has been in the trenches, had the opportunities to make mistakes, and to learn from them. Some say those are marks against her and that makes her part of the “establishment.” I hope when I’m middle-aged my peers look at my record and experience as an asset rather than a disability. Regardless of who wins this primary—Either candidate will have my enthusiastic support!!

  68. SW – The reason the country was in such a surplus during Bill’s time in office had more to do with the dot com boom than with the Clintons.

His timing was good, that’s about it.

  69. I think what would really have helped Mr. Obama here in Omaha also beside,s speaking to ev-1 at the downtown location was to go to the health care bldg. in S.O and visite with some Latino ppl and to the awarness center I know he would have made a good case there sorry he missed those 2-places i am sure they would have loved to have seen him tour there bldg.

Now heck he need,s to put the bottle down how can he help Hill he CAN`T !!! Well then he got lucky because of the DOT. COM. ERROR.. NOW that time has passed so get real people and put the past in the past and for those of you who say you can`t find his RECORD on his website I JUST DID hmm wonder where you are looking he is not hideing a thing nor did he turn his back on the FLAG THAT WAS A LIE that started way back .So it sound,s like alot of you really don`t keep up with what is really going on you really keep up with more rumors then anything…

  71. Karl Rove made a statement tonight on CNN that he felt Hillary Clinton would be easier to defeat than Barack Obama. That said it all for me. I frankly don’t trust anything out of Karl Rove’s mouth. Sounds to me like he’s making such a statement because he knows the opposite is true but won’t be an obstacle for the Republican nominee if Obama gets the Democratic nomination. Call me cynical but I just can’t believe Karl Rove’s sincerety in offering Democrats advice. Obama is so far left the Republicans will eat him for lunch. Plus there is simply too much about this man that I find quite distasteful beginning with his affiliation with Trinity Church of Christ – a staunchly ethnocentric group that’s mission statement is “unapologetically black” and backed Louis Farakhan. Plus I’ve read his books and it bothers me that he claims from the age of 13 he did everything to alienate himself from his white family members and upbringing, and avoided any effort to ingratiate himself among the white community. Then why does he want my vote now – because he’s had some change of heart. I just don’t buy it when he says I love you back during his campaign stumps. On the other hand, Hillary has gone out of her way to help all in need regardless of race. Don’t shoot the messenger or accuse me of bringing up the race card. Barack Obama did that when he put pen to paper but knows that 95% of the electorate won’t read his books. Thankfully they were required reading for an advanced history course I took. Go Hillary!!

  72. Obama is the only candidate who cares about rural states. He visited Nebraska when Clinton sent her daugther. Even to campaign in Louisiana, she sent her husband. It seems the really candidate is not Hillary but BILLARY Clinton. Obama has won in Alaska, Iowa, Nebraska, Idaho, Utah, Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. He will also carry Nebraska! Don’t forget to caucus this Saturday for CHANGE!

    NEWS FLASH !
Hillary Was AGAINST the Civil Rights Act of 1964
While a Republican and ‘Goldwater Girl’

????.. know the TRUTH about Hillary. Read This…..THEN SPREAD THE WORD !!!!

A March 12, 2007 article written by acclaimed Washington columnist Robert Novak sheds a very revealing light on the true sentiment of Hillary Clinton during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement. Clinton recently was found to have minimized the great and monumental strides taken by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by stating that it was Lyndon B. Johnson, then president, who should receive the credit for the civil rights progress including the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

In an attempt to attract black support Hillary Clinton regularly shares her ‘civil rights experience’ during every speech given to black audiences. Novak writes of one such speech at Selma’s First Baptist Church on the 42nd anniversary of the ‘bloody Sunday’ freedom march there, where Sen. Clinton declared: ‘As a young woman, I had the great privilege of hearing Dr. King speak in Chicago. The year was 1963. My youth minister from our church took a few of us down on a cold January night to hear [King]. . . . And he called on us, he challenged us that evening to stay awake during the great revolution that the civil rights pioneers were waging on behalf of a more perfect union.’ But Novak’s article states that there’s a big problem with her statement.

The fact is, in 1963, not only was Hillary Clinton a republican, but she was also a staunch supporter of republican Senator Barry Goldwater, well known as a segregationist and one of the most vocal senators adamently against the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which is why he lost in his presidential bid to Lyndon B. Johnson. Novak writes ’...how then could she be a ‘Goldwater Girl’ in the next year’s presidential election?’ He continues, ’...she described herself in her memoirs as ‘an active Young Republican’ and ‘a Goldwater girl, right down to my cowgirl outfit.’

Novak adds, ‘As a politically attuned honor student, she must have known that Goldwater was one of only six Republican senators who joined Southern Democratic segregationists opposing the historic voting rights act of 1964 inspired by King. Hillary headed the Young Republicans at Wellesley College. The incompatibility of those two positions of 40 years ago was noted to me (Novak) by Democratic old-timers who were shocked by Sen. Clinton’s temerity in pursuing her presidential candidacy.’ Novak adds, ‘What Hillary Clinton said at Selma is significant because it betrays her campaign’s panicky reaction to the unexpected rise of Sen. Obama as a serious competitor for the Democratic nomination.

Clinton’s plans were transformed by the advent of Obama, an African-American threatening the hard allegiance of black voters forged by Bill Clinton. On one hand, the Clinton campaign has attacked Obama and his supporters. On the other hand, she has sought to solidify her civil rights credentials.

While Clinton was re-inventing her past, her road to the White House is not going as planned. Instead of a steady procession to coronation at the Denver convention, she is involved in a real struggle against credible opponents led by Obama. No wonder she and her handlers were tempted to imply the existence long ago of a young lady in Chicago’s suburbs who never really existed.’

We greatly appreciate Mr. Novak’s findings which bring one main thought to mind. Wake up Black America! DON’T BE FOOLED ! The fact is, despite her falsehoods, Hillary was AGAINST the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that Dr. Martin Luther King died for. As a ‘Goldwater Girl’ she was actually even against Lyndon B. Johnson, the very person she now gives the credit to for Dr. King getting to the mountaintop. She has worked extremely hard to hide many truths about her past, including ordering that her 92 page college thesis that she wrote at Wellesley College be ‘sealed’ and unavailable to the public, an order forced upon the college by Bill Clinton while president, although all senior thesis’ at Wellesley have been available for public reading for over 100 years, except one….Hillary Rodham Clinton’s.

Reports have stated that information in her ‘secret thesis’ could be the ‘Swift Boat’ ammo to be used by the Republican Party against her should she become the nominee. (read more about ‘secret thesis’ at MSNBC)

In addition to re-inventing her past, the most obvious new Billary Clinton strategy is to use ‘Token Negroes’ like BET Founder Bob Johnson, Tavis Smiley, and Magic Johnson to name a few, to attack and discredit Barack Obama, a tactic which many blacks find additionally offensive, calling these black Clinton cronies ‘sell-outs’. Spread the word….share the facts. The Clinton’s have been conning the black community for a long time and are NOT what they claim to be. I bet they go home at night, pour some expensive wine, kick their feet up and just laugh like crazy about what big black suckers we are. But now, it’s time to prove them wrong !
