Caucus Update: Custer and Blaine Counties
Feb 09, 01:46 PM CST
The following is from a volunteer on the ground in Custer County, Don Davis.
Custer and Blaine County Democrats have cast their votes for the party’s presidential nominee. Saturday morning approximately 90 Democrats gathered in the VFW Building in Broken Bow to take part in Nebraska’s first-ever state-wide presidential caucus.

After opening remarks and directions from Caucus Chairman Bill Blackburn, participants were divided into three groups-those supporting Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, or undecided. The Clinton and Obama camps each chose a chairperson and then took turns trying to convince the undecideds and those in the other camp to join them.

Following a half hour of discussion, everyone gathered in one camp or the other. These numbers were duly recorded and will be forwarded to the state party chairman.

While Senators Clinton and Obama will be on Nebraska’s primary ballot in May, it is the results of these caucuses that will determine 24 of the 31 delegates Nebraska will cast at the National Democratic Convention. The remaining 7 votes are in the hands of “super delegates.”
Among the 90 participants were 3 Democrats from Blaine County and 9 others who switched their registration to Democrat at the sign-in table.
