Scott Kleeb to Run for Senate?

Feb 20, 01:32 PM CST

Don Walton, over at the Journal-Star, says Scott is ready to announce his plans:

Kleeb, the 2006 Democratic congressional nominee in western and central Nebraska, is planning to reveal his political plans on Monday.

His candidacy would set the stage for a high-profile Democratic primary contest with Columbus industrialist Tony Raimondo for the Senate nomination.

Here’s the real story:

A Kleeb-Raimondo battle for the Democratic nomination would dominate attention in the May 13 primary election.

2008 continues to be a great year to be a Democrat. While the Republicans in our state decided waiting was better than working, Democrats involved themselves in the Presidential race. And now, while the Republican bigwigs cleared the field for their favorite self-described “Iowa farm boy,” it’s the Democratic voters that will choose our nominee.

This Jeff Koterba cartoon pretty much sums it up:

We have the energy. We have the momentum. Let’s take advantage of it.

Note: The Nebraska Democratic Party does not endorse any candidates in a contested primary election. We offer the same opportunities to all candidates.

  2. Great to hear that Scott is planning on running. I don’t know much about Raimondo, but I know Kleeb would make a great candidate. And a contested primary would only bode well for name recognition alone. Let’s not cede this thing to Johanns.
