Feb 26, 09:27 AM CST
Yesterday, Scott Kleeb officially filed the paperwork for his candidacy and Tony Raimondo kicked off his campaign, marking the first competitive Democratic primary contest in Nebraska in recent memory.
Scott Kleeb had this to say:
“What we need is not the same people making the same decisions over the last 20 years — the people who got us into this position, asking them to get us out of it,” Kleeb said in a telephone interview Sunday.
“What we need is for someone to bring a newness to all these questions about education, the economy, foreign policy and security.”
Kleeb garnered national attention in 2006 when he mounted a competitive bid against Republican Adrian Smith in western Nebraska’s 3rd Congressional District, a GOP stronghold…
After the campaign, Kleeb took a job teaching history at Hastings College. He has an extensive academic résumé that includes two master’s degrees and a doctorate in history from Yale University.
Already an announced candidate, Tony Raimondo kicked off his campaign yesterday:
Raimondo formally launched his campaign at the Columbus headquarters of his company, Behlen Manufacturing Co…
More than 100 friends, supporters and company employees turned out to hear Raimondo’s first official campaign speech. Among those attending were members of the Columbus City Council and the Platte County Board.
Several said they were proud of Raimondo’s entry into the race. They also praised his business acumen and his community involvement.
Raimondo led a management team that saved Behlen from a financial crisis in the 1980s. When he and three others purchased the company in 1984, the company had about $30 million in gross sales. Today, annual gross sales top about $220 million.
