NDP Requests Public Records Related to Heineman, Bruning Presidential Campaigning

LINCOLN, Neb. – Executive Director Matt Connealy, on behalf of the Nebraska Democratic Party, submitted a request for public records related to Governor Dave Heineman’s campaigning for Mitt Romney and Attorney General Jon Bruning’s campaigning for Mike Huckabee. The request includes both officials’ schedules for December and January and all email and other correspondence related to their campaign activities.

“In his time in office, Dave Heineman has ratcheted up the partisanship in the statehouse to unprecedented levels, involving himself in campaigns from state legislature all the way to President of the United States,” said Connealy. “We want to ensure that taxpayers aren’t picking up the tab for his campaign activities.”

Governor Heineman campaigned in Iowa in preparation of the January 3rd Iowa Caucuses. Neither Heineman’s nor Bruning’s favored candidates will be viable when Nebraska Republicans make their presidential nominee selection in May.
