Heineman Withdraws Jensen Nomination

Kyle Michaelis has the story:

Live from the floor of the Legislature….Gov. Dave Heineman has withdrawn his controversial nomination of Sam Jensen to Nebraska’s Commission of Industrial Relations.

Jensen has devoted his professional career to fighting against workers’ rights. That Heineman even nominated him to serve on a body responsible for resolving labor disputes was a terrible insult to organized labor and to every employee in the state.

Just a couple weeks ago Governor Heineman stood “fully behind his nominee,” despite a 6-0 vote in committee to reject the confirmation. I’m not sure what’s changed since then, but I get a feeling –– between this and the LB 39 veto override –– that the Gov’s lost his touch when it comes to twisting arms in the legislature to get his way.

Regardless, the withdrawal of Sam Jensen’s nomination is a victory for every state employee and union member in Nebraska.
