Candidates Meet in Grand Island
Mar 31, 01:30 PM CST
Several candidates attended the 3rd CD organizational meeting in Grand Island on Saturday. The Omaha-World Herald was one of several media outlets to cover the event:
(Columbus Businessman Tony) Raimondo said his emphasis in Washington would be to break the partisan gridlock, create jobs and invest in domestic programs, including the nation’s infrastructure.
He said he regrets voting for George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004, saying he now believes the Iraq war was a “mistake.”
“In my heart, I know the Republican Party left me. The Republican Party has become a party of unilateral decisions, and (it) lacks fiscal discipline,” Raimondo said.
He said he is running on his four decades in business. He has the real-life experience to reduce government spending, create jobs and deal with the nation’s housing woes, he said…
(Hastings Professor Scott Kleeb) said he is running as the change candidate. He repeatedly told the group that he believes he can bring something different to Washington and that he can unite people behind a cause.
Kleeb, whose speeches contain few policy details, said he felt compelled to answer the call to public service on behalf of his children, saying he wants to make a better future for them.
He said he would work to bring people together and search for solutions to some of the nation’s biggest problems, including the country’s rising debt and global warming.
“Our democracy demands that we choose something different. It demands that we do get involved. It demands that we recognize something very fundamental in who we are as a country and what has made us strong. And that is that we are all in this together,” Kleeb said.
Larry Marvin, Paul Spatz, Jay Stoddard, and Gary Rasmussen were also in attendance.

Tony Raimondo listens to a question.

Scott Kleeb addresses the room as Brian Osborn (left) looks on.

Congressional Candidate Paul Spatz talks a little about his experience at the caucus.

Congressional Candidate Jay Stoddard addresses problems with the economy.
I enjoyed the opportunity to see some of my old friends from Grand Island as well as a few new faces. Thanks to the 3rd CD Democrats for putting on this great event.
