NDP Gains 14,000 New Members

May 08, 11:03 AM CST

Fred Knapp at NET radio has the story:

...the number of Nebraska voters registered as Democrats increased by nearly 14,000. Meanwhile, the number of registered Republicans decreased by nearly 5,000.

There are just over 1.1 million registered voters in Nebraska.

Of course, we still lag behind in overall registration:
49% Republican
33% Democratic
17% Independent

But at least we’re moving the right direction.

  1. Just as a lot of people who are registered as Republican are really Dems and Indies that just want to have a say in a primary that they think may decide the election (like Osborne vs Heineman) you can assume that a lot of those people aren’t really Democrats. What we really need is open primaries and you’ll see a huge drop in Republican registration.

  4. Mr. Raimondo has been endorsed by the Omaha World Herald. Would they endorse a Republican that had recently changed party affiliation from that of a Democrat? I think not.

  5. I read an article the other day that claimed many Republicans were changing party in order to sabatogue the Democratic party.
I laughed thinking how ridiculous and paranoid that sounded..
But now, I’m not so sure.
Raimondo is not a democrat by any definition I know of and yet he’s running as a democrat.
One has to give pause and wonder that if the GOP (you know the one, that party with all those holy and good people who never lie, never cheat and NEVER have any sex scandals..HA!)
    wouldn’t actually stoop to this.
I know Tony Raimondo has me wondering!

  6. I would jump ship too if I were a Republican! The war was predicated on a lie,the leaders at the top of the administration did all they could to avoid service during the Vietnam war, they created an incredible debt for the next generation and they failed to help their own citizens in New Orleans.A new broom sweeps clean.

  7. I’m one of those new Democrats in Nebraska, I moved from Iowa in May of 2007, and I’m proud to say that I finally got my chance to vote for Hillary Clinton for President.

  8. According to the news on the TV, I just found out that my vote today means nothing… that the delegates were awarded on the basis of the outcome of the caucus. I have been robbed again by the Nebraska Democratic Party. I did not know when the caucus was, because there was no advertising. I’m outraged by this states underhanded ways to keep the common man out of the loop. If Obama gets the nomination I’m either writing Hillary in or voting for Mc Cain, purely on principal. I am sickened by this state.

  9. David how could you have missed this news? The amazing turn out was well reported.

    Charles… yes… they would.
