Mayor Beutler Takes Steps to Remove Appearance of Impropriety
May 13, 01:59 PM CST
Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler signed an executive order that will prohibit high-level city employees from holding contracts with the city.

This step to remove even the appearance of corruption and impropriety was suggested by the Charter Revision Commission, the Lincoln-Journal Star reports:
“The directors and aides hold positions of authority and influence in my administration,” Beutler said in a press release. “They are valued members of my team, and they are here because I trust their judgment. Nevertheless, I want to avoid even the appearance of impropriety that naturally arises when a high-ranking city officer contracts with the city.”
The employees covered by the order are at-will employees, who can be fired by the mayor.
None of these employees currently have contracts with the city, but this was yet another good decision by a mayor who has continuously impressed people on both sides of the aisle during his first year in office.
Meanwhile, some Lincolnites are circulating a petition to place a ban on city council members holding contracts with the city on the November ballot. While the NDP has not officially endorsed this effort, any registered voters in Lincoln wishing to sign the petition can do so at the NDP office at 1327 H Street.
