OWH: Democrats Show Strength in Legislative Races

The Omaha World-Herald has taken notice that Tuesday was a great day for the Nebraska Democratic Party:
The GOP may be the dominant political party in Nebraska, but it didn’t dominate legislative races in the primary elections.
In most contests where Democrats faced Republicans in the officially nonpartisan elections, it was the Democrat who finished with the most votes.
Democrats were the top vote-getters in six of seven contested legislative races in the Omaha metropolitan area.
In Lincoln, Democrats finished first in two of four contested races – and came within 40 votes of a well-funded Republican candidate in a third.
The story mentions that three out of four Heineman endorsees failed to win on Tuesday. Publicly, of course, Heineman’s spokeswoman is pleased with their performance:
”(Heineman) thought they did pretty well,” she said. “The key to the primary is to advance to the general election. There are numerous instances throughout Nebraska history where the second-place finisher won in November.”
But the fact of the matter is that Beau McCoy and Paul Eurek, both of whom received considerable support from the Governor, flat out embarrassed Heineman with their poor showings on Tuesday.
