At this year’s State Convention, elections will be held for the position of State Chair, 1st Associate Chair, 2nd Associate Chair, National Committeeman and National Committeewoman.

The Nominations Committee is currently accepting nominations and encourages anyone interested in running for any of these seats to contact them. A job description for each officer position is listed below.

Nebraska Democratic Party
Officer Job Descriptions

State Chair

  • Sets vision for the organization.

  • Serves as primary spokesperson for the Party, working with Party staff to facilitate effective statewide media relations for the organization.

  • Presides at all official meetings of the organization.

  • Coordinates overall fundraising/finance plan with the Executive Director and other Party staff.

  • Works to continue a strong working relationship with other state parties and the Democratic National Committee; encourages and promotes national party support for Party.

  • Works with Party staff to coordinate candidate recruitment efforts.

  • Establishes effective working relationships with Democratic candidates and elected officials.

  • Regularly communicates with members of the State Executive Committee and State Central Committee.

  • Supervises Party staff subject to oversight by the State Executive and Central Committees.

  • Addresses issues, disagreements and disputes within Party.


First Associate Chair

  • Chair and/or co-chair large-dollar fundraising events and various other fundraising events of varied size.

  • Handles various tasks per the request of the State Chair (i.e. chair various committees, etc.)
  • Communicates with staff and secretary regarding the function of the State Central Committee.

  • Communicates on a regular basis with members of the State Central Committee.

  • Presides over State Central Committee meetings in the absence of the State Chair.

  • Assists in coordinating the sustaining donor program and event ticket sales.

  • Serves as “host” at fundraising events.

  • Maintains the officer’s manual.

  • May serve as Chair of the State Convention Organizing Committee.

  • Represent and speak on behalf of the State Party as needed.


Second Associate Chair

  • Coordinates efforts of caucuses.

  • Handles various tasks per the request of the State Chair.

  • Assists in coordinating the sustaining donor program and event ticket sales.

  • Represent and speak on behalf of the State Party as needed.

  • Coordinates speaker’s bureau.

  • Communicates on a regular basis with members of the State Central Committee.


Congressional District Chairs

  • Works with Party staff and officers to increase county party development.

  • Assists in the recruitment and training of county chairs.
  • Attends County Party meetings.

  • Communicates with county chairs and committee chairs.

  • Fills vacancies within the SCC.

  • Assists county party leaders with local media relations and other issues.

  • Recruits members for the CD caucus.

  • Assists with County and State Party fundraising efforts.

  • Solicits sustaining donors for the State Party.


National Committee Representatives

  • Reflect the State Party philosophy to the National Committee.

  • Act as liaisons between the State and the National Parties.

  • Shall use their public visibility to the best advantage and aid of the State Party in soliciting financial support for it.
