Nebraskans United

In case you haven’t noticed, petition circulators have flooded into our state in an attempt to co-opt our state constitution with a radical right-wing agenda.

Most of these petition circulators are from out of state, but they’re certainly all out of touch.

The so-called “Civil Rights Institute,” funded almost completely by right-wing Californian Ward Connerly and his allies, is attempting to hijack our state constitution by banning affirmative action in Nebraska –– an incredibly short-sighted and divisive move that threatens to divide our communities and deny equal opportunities to our friends and neighbors.

While we know that passage of the amendment would undercut Nebraska’s ability to develop a diverse workforce, eliminate scholarships to our community colleges and the University, threaten women-owned businesses, and risk continuation of countless education, business development, and public health programs, other Nebraskans may be fooled by their misleading messages.

Our allies are joining together to stop the petition dead in its tracks, but we need your help to spread the word. If you see a petition circulator, report it to www.nebraskansunited.org so that we can make sure people in your area hear the truth about their dangerous goals. If you want to get more involved, contact Danielle Nantkes at (402) 432-3394 or at d_nantkes@yahoo.com.

  1. Heads up—There was a petition circulator working the No Frills in Papillion (84th St & Giles Rd).

I was in a hurry to hit the credit union on my lunch hour, so I waived her off when she wanted to speak to me. So I do not know for a fact that she is circulating this petition.

If someone else lives near there and can confirm that No Frills gave permission for these petitions to be circulated on their property, perhaps we can notify the home office.

  2. What people don’t realize is this petition stops ALL gender/race considerations on ANY application in the state not just job applications.

It seems like a good idea up front, but this blanket policy that doesn’t consider exceptions. I’m not a fan of affirmative action but the Civil Rights Ammendment is just plain wrong.
