AP/USA Today: Neb. supporters pay big bucks to see McCain

Jul 16, 06:21 AM CST

The USA Today has this story from the AP about today’s fundraiser with John McCain:

Some Nebraska couples are paying $50,000 to visit with Republican presidential contender John McCain in Ashland on Wednesday, prompting criticism from Democrats about the Arizona senator’s first campaign stop in the state this election cycle.

To make their point, state Democrats are holding a $5 per person hot dog cookout at a park about a mile from the Strategic Air and Space Museum, where McCain will speak.

Of course, most of us remember that Senator Obama has been in Nebraska several times: for the 2006 Morrison-Exon Dinner, a gathering with Warren Buffett in August of 2007, and a rally that drew thousands of supporters in Omaha in February of this year. McCain, of course is just here for the cash:

Obama was in Nebraska in February for an appearance days before the state’s first-ever Democratic caucus.

Eric Van Horn, spokesman for the state Democrats, said there’s a huge difference between Obama’s free event that drew thousands to Omaha and McCain’s fundraiser.

Obama “has shown he’s committed to Nebraska’s voters,” Van Horn said. “McCain’s shown he’s committed to Nebraskans’ wallets.”

I look forward to seeing everyone at the cookout this afternoon. I’m willing to bet my $5 entry that we have a better time than the folks at the SAC museum.
