Kleeb Listens To Health Care Concerns

Jul 31, 09:27 AM CST

Don Walton covered the second event in Kleeb’s “Building a Better Nebraska Tour”:

Scott Kleeb listened Wednesday to the complex challenges of a health care system increasingly under duress.

The Democratic Senate nominee sat down at lunch with seven Lincolnites who are engaged in health care policy to explore their views as he prepares his own legislative plan.

“You guys are on the front lines,” Kleeb said. “Your feet are much closer to the ground.”

  1. “You guys are on the front lines,” definitely. I have the feeling this year health care will be battleground in many countries -USA, Canada, maybe UK…Anyway, I hope the patient will be the winner .)

  2. As an American living in England and also a member of Democrats Abroad, and one who is familiar with and likes Nebraska:I may be able to contribute to the debate about health care
First,I pay nothing for my medical care. This includes visits to the doctor, prescriptions and even hospitalization, if this becomes necessary. Furthermore there are no papers to be filled out and neither are there any deductibles or co payments to
be made . Everyone here is covered, including the homeless.
While the systems may vary in each european country, universal health care is the norm, not the exception. furthermore the individual’s contributions for their medical care are lower than ours.
The picture for our country is dramatically different. We spend more money than any other country on health care and yet there are over 40 million people without any cover at all. Plus there are millions more with inadequate insurance. We are ranked 37 in the league tables of medical care.
Even more shocking is the fact that we are the only country in the western, industrialized world without universal health care. This is in-spite of Harry Truman’s efforts to introduce it 60 years ago.
It is very important to stress that this medical system exists side -by -side with free enterprise economies and with both conservative and liberal governments. In fact the Conservative Prime Minister of Great Britain said,”the National Health Service is safe in my hands!”Our system is in need of serious reforfm
