OMAHA, Neb. – NDP State Chair Steve Achelpohl could not agree more with NEGOP State Chair Mark Quandahl’s assessment of Tuesday’s action at the Republican Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Quandahl told CNN Tuesday that President Bush’s speech “basically passed the baton to John McCain.” [Source] Steve Achelpohl agrees.
“What we saw Tuesday night was the transition to a new standard-bearer of President Bush’s old and failed policies,” said Achelpohl. “In a lot of ways, the Bush-McCain relay analogy is very appropriate: George W. Bush and John McCain are on the same team and headed in the same direction. The passing of the baton at convention is just the latest signal that McCain’s intention is to give Americans more of the same.”
Quandahl’s comments came on the heels of President Bush’s speech, but the connection between Bush and McCain is nothing new. Senator McCain himself has advanced the notion that he agrees with President Bush “on most issues.” He told Fox News, “I voted with the President over 90% of the time, higher than a lot of my … Republican colleagues.” [Source]
Senator McCain is expected to accept the Republican Party’s nomination for President tonight.
