Nebraska Dems Disagree with McCain's Assertion that "Fundamentals of the Economy Are Strong."

Today, McCain continued to defend his belief that the “fundamentals of the economy are strong.” It was no mistake; yesterday marked the 16th time that McCain has said the phrase on the campaign so far.

Of course, it’s not lost on Nebraska Democrats that John McCain doesn’t really know what he’s talking about.

Mayor Mike Fahey:

“I disagree with John McCain’s statement yesterday noting that the ‘fundamentals of the economy are strong.’ Even here in Omaha, a city where the local economy is doing better than many other places across the country, the hardworking Omahans I know are feeling pinched by the failed economic policies that John McCain supports. Today more than ever, we need Barack Obama, a leader who has a clear plan to bring about the economic growth and security that our middle class families need.”

Steve Achelpohl:

“John McCain’s insistence that the fundamentals of our economy are strong shows just how out of touch he really is. Nebraskans are spending more on everything from gas to groceries while their wages have stagnated. We’re being crushed under the weight of Bush-McCain economic policies, but John McCain has the nerve to tell us that what we’re seeing in our own lives isn’t true. Of course, coming from a guy who owns so many houses that he loses track of them all, no one should be surprised that John McCain fails to realize our economy is not strong.”
