As Esch Draws Contrasts on Social Security, Cook Upgrades NE-02 to "Lean Republican"

Jim Esch isn’t afraid to point out that Lee Terry’s refusal to reject privatization of Social Security is especially puzzling given this week’s uncertainty in the stock market:

“As I have said all along, the current social security program we have in place would work if we allowed it to work as it was intended.” Jim Esch said. “To raid the social security fund – as Lee Terry has suggested – and put that money into the hands of private investors is morally wrong and alarming to me given what has transpired in the stock market the last few days.”

“As your Congressman, I will not jeopardize your hard earned guaranteed benefit provided by the Social Security fund,” Esch said.

Esch has been running strong, and Charlie Cook has taken notice by upgrading the NE-02 race to “Lean Republican” from “Likely Republican.” You can see the list of recently updated ratings here.
