Intermill Releases Heier Tax Index
Report examines increase in property taxes during Heier Tenure

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nancy Intermill for County Board campaign turned up the heat on its opponent, Bernie Heier, Monday through its release of a six page report detailing the increase of property tax collections during Heier’s tenure. In addition to detailing the increase, the report also compares growth of County Board collections to those of other taxing entities within Lancaster County during the same time period.

The conclusion? Taxes have increased under Mr. Heier, and there’s no sign that will change.

“Over the past ten years, Mr. Heier has demonstrated a penchant for increasing property tax collections in Lancaster County,” said Intermill. “In his first eight years on the County Board, property tax collections increased 81% while average incomes and inflation remained relatively flat. With the added burden of the new proposed jail – the worst is yet to come.”

The study points out that the new jail to be financed by the Joint Public Agency will cost County taxpayers nearly $14,000 a day, every day, for the next 20 years.

“Property taxpayers understand the value taxes play in maintaining our high quality of life in Lancaster County,” Intermill said. “However, County Board collections have vastly outpaced all other taxing entities. Everyone else seems to be tightening their belts while Mr. Heier and his colleagues continue to fill their coffers.”
“Lancaster County taxpayers deserve a break. Come November I hope they’ll join me in restoring responsible government to the County Board.”

Intermill, 56, of Lincoln, is running to replace Heier on the Lancaster County Board. She aims to be a fresh voice on the Board – someone who’s willing to work with Lincoln city government, for the benefit of all of Lancaster County’s residents.
