Obama's Steve Hildebrand on Jim Esch

Steve Hildebrand, Obama’s Deputy Campaign Manager, sent this message out on behalf of Jim Esch:

This election season has already been one for the history books. Senator Obama is charging hard and ready to bring the change our country so desperately needs, but we also have the chance to make history in Congress.

In Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District, Democrat Jim Esch is starting to surge in a surprisingly competitive race.

Across America, people are demanding change, and Nebraska’s 2nd District is no exception. Eight years of failed Bush policies have hurt Nebraska families just as much as they’ve hurt families across America.

But this race is far from over.

According to recent polling, this race could very well come down to a single electoral vote. And considering that Nebraska allocates its electoral votes according to the candidate that wins the district, this race could come down to how well Senator Obama does in the 2nd.

With this in mind, we’ve made a serious investment in the Omaha-based district. Last month, we opened a campaign office and hired John Berge to be our state director. We’ve been out canvassing neighborhoods, knocking on doors, and reaching out to voters.

We’re also waging an aggressive air war here, too. The Omaha media market stretches across the Missouri River and into the homes of voters in Council Bluffs, IA, where we’ve been reaching out to these voters for some time.

We know the voters in the 2nd are ready to support a Democrat. Omaha, the state’s largest city and the seat of Douglas County, is home to an overwhelming majority of the state’s growing African American population. And in 2006, incumbent Senator Ben Nelson (D) won Douglas County by over 30%.

With everyone here paying close attention, Jim has a golden opportunity to take his message of change to every last voter in this district.

Be a part of history by helping Barack Obama and Jim Esch win the 2nd Congressional District of Nebraska. Please contribute $250, $100, or $50 today!

This race is so close that one more TV ad or one more phone call can make all the difference. Both Jim Esch and Barack Obama are counting on your support to help them both win this district.

Thanks for your consideration of this urgent request.

Obama for America
