Terry Under Fire for Voting for $700 Billion Tax Payer Funder, Receiving 100k Bank Loan to Prop up Flailing Re-Election Campaign
OMAHA, Neb. – As Congressman Lee Terry refuses to answer questions regarding his $100,000 campaign loan, Nebraskans have called on Terry to answer serious questions about the loan that is powering his negative re-election campaign.
“Did Lee Terry get a sweetheart deal? We still don’t know,” said Nebraska Democratic Party Communications Director Eric Van Horn. “Lee Terry has asked Nebraskans to trust him, but how can we trust him if he won’t answer basic questions about this loan? If the Terry campaign believes this loan was completely appropriate, the campaign should have no trouble releasing the terms of the agreement and answering questions. With four days left to go before Election Day, Nebraskans deserve straight talk and Congressman Terry needs to come clean and answer questions for the voters.”
Today’s Omaha World-Herald reported that the Terry campaign believed the loan was “completely appropriate” but the campaign has refused to answer basic questions regarding the terms of the loan agreement.
The Omaha World-Herald reported that the “Terry campaign obtained a $100,000 loan Oct. 24 from Sherman County Bank in Loup City,” after “Terry found himself locked out of about $100,000 in campaign funds that were invested with the Reserve Fund.” [Omaha World-Herald, 10/31/08]
Terry has accepted more than $350,000 from Wall Street firms and the financial services industry and voted for the $700 billion bailout plan for Wall Street after initially voting against it. [Center for Responsive Politics], [Roll no. 681, H R 1424, 10/03/08]
