Lincoln, NE — Ken Svoboda invited the Nebraska Democratic Party to “go at it” if we wanted to attack him on his record as a City Council person (Lincoln Journal Star 4/29/09). The Nebraska Democratic Party gladly accepts this challenge and has put up a website, thetruthaboutken.com.
Here is Ken Svoboda’s voting record as a City Councilman:
•Ken Svoboda voted against prohibiting alcohol sales next to homes, schools and churches.
•Ken Svoboda voted to allow guns in domestic abuse shelters.
•Ken Svoboda voted to limit public input at open mike.
•Ken Svoboda voted to raise wheel taxes nearly 40%.
•Ken Svoboda voted against allowing the cable board to look into the Time Warner Navigator DVR fiasco, an investigation that determined that Time Warner did victimize Lincoln citizens.
•Ken Svoboda voted against allowing a vote on a charter amendment to prevent council members from having contracts with the city. This proposal was offered to stop Ken and people like Ken who have been abusing the system for years.
•Ken Svoboda voted against many plans that would have prevented flooding of existing neighborhoods.
•Ken Svoboda voted against the living wage ordinance.
•Since 2004, Ken Svoboda has voted to raise water rates 32% to pay for new development.
•Since 2004, Ken Svoboda voted to raise sewer fees 42% to pay for new development.
•Ken Svoboda voted against impact fees that would make new development pay at least part of its share of those costs.
And if you wonder what the future holds . . . ask Ken Svoboda if he intends to use tax money to help home builders build new roads in their new developments on the outskirts of Lincoln while using special assessment districts to assess home owners in established neighborhoods if their streets need repairs.
Lincoln has had enough of Ken Svoboda. We need new faces on the City Council.
