Recovery Act Already Making Life Easier for Families and Businesses
Washington, DC – President Obama and Vice President Biden announced a new effort today, the Roadmap to Recovery, which will accelerate the implementation of Recovery Act projects over the next 100 days. The White House also launched a new webpage – WhiteHouse.gov/Recovery – that allows citizens to track Recovery Act projects in their communities, provide feedback to the Administration and share their stories. DNC Chairman Tim Kaine issued the following statement after the President’s announcement.
“The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, President Obama’s recovery package, was signed into law a little more than 100 days ago. In just that amount of time, it has created or saved over 150,000 jobs, cut taxes for 95 percent of working families, and provided funds for over 4,000 transportation projects that will put people back to work.
“Today the President announced a new effort – the Roadmap to Recovery – an Administration-wide effort to accelerate the implementation of Recovery Act programs this summer. In the next 100 days, the Admininstration will use Recovery Act funds to help 1,129 health centers in all 50 states provide expanded service to approximately 300,000 patients, fund 135,000 jobs in our education system, and fund 2,300 construction and rehabilitation projects at 359 military facilities across the country. All told, the Recovery Act is on track to create or save 600,000 jobs in the next 100 days – more than four times the number of jobs created in the first 100 days of the Act.
“As President Obama has said before, our economic problems weren’t created in 100 days and they won’t be solved in 100 days. But this summer – thanks to Congressional Democrats who passed the Recovery Act and the Obama Administration, which is working to accelerate its implementation – more dollars will be available to improve our economy, more shovels will go into the ground, and more money will stay in the pockets and bank accounts of the families who need it most.
“President Obama took swift, bold action to confront the worst economic crisis in a generation; a crisis inherited by his Administration. Though we have a ways to go, we are starting to see signs of progress around the country and Democrats will continue to stand strong with President Obama as we move closer to economic recovery and long term economic prosperity.”
