Lincoln, NE – Nebraska Democratic Party chairman Vic Covalt issued this statement today about Senator Mike Johanns and his opposition to Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s appointment to the Supreme Court.
“Mike Johanns continues to tow a party line and vote no just as failed Republican leadership has instructed him to do in Washington,” Covalt said. “It would be something if Johanns could show a streak of independent thought that so many of our Senators from Nebraska have shown through the years. Johanns has been piling up the no votes in Washington and at this pace it makes you wonder if he knows that a yes button exists.”
“Judge Sonia Sotomayor has exhibited great composure and poise in the hearings for her nomination to the Supreme Court,” Covalt continued. “She would be a great addition to the Supreme Court. I am disappointed that Johanns continues to be negative on nearly everything.”
