LJS: Beutler Encourages Census Response

Jan 22, 08:10 AM CST

This year’s census is being done through a short form, not a long form. The data collected are used to determine things such as how more than $400 billion in federal funding is distributed and the number of seats in the U.S. House and the Nebraska Legislature.

Locally, the city of Lincoln uses the data to determine where to put local schools, hospital and fire stations.

Please, Mayor Chris Beutler said Thursday, make sure you’re counted. Census forms will be mailed out in March and must be returned by mid-April. Census workers go out to households that don’t return the forms.
