Deficit Dave Fails Nebraska.

Nebraskans should be asking why Deficit Dave Heineman keeps failing to mention our state’s projected $660 million budget deficit.

It’s not like Deficit Dave doesn’t love to talk to the media. Heineman made his announcement to run for another term as Governor, yet no mention of the shortfall. Dave gave his State of the State address to the people of Nebraska, but somehow forgot to talk about the deficit. He even put his hand out to the President for $8 million to clean up the snow and forgot to say anything about the shortage when he chatted up the press.

Deficit Dave had plenty of chances over the last few months to fix some of Nebraska’s problems.

As our family, friends, and neighbors are suffering from employment with a state jobless rate of almost 5% – the highest in 22 years – Deficit Dave failed to create new jobs when he had the opportunity. Instead he took the stimulus funds to plug the budget gap and fund the prisons, which left hard-working Nebraskans pounding the icy pavement in search of jobs. The only thing more cold and harsh than this winter is Deficit Dave’s blind eye to job creation. $53 million in stimulus funds would have created a lot of jobs for Nebraskans.

Even though Deficit Dave Heineman had been informed by federal inspectors about the bad conditions at Beatrice State Developmental Center, he flunked out on correcting the situation. Consequently, Deficit Dave’s in-actions caused BSDC to lose $28.6 million in federal funding from Medicare and Medicaid, which is half of their annual budget.

While Republicans Johanns, Terry, Fortenberry, and Smith all voted against stimulus funds to help Nebraskans, Deficit Dave was happy to put his hand out for $235.6 million in federal stimulus funds to build highways. Even though it goes against the votes of his fellow Republicans, taking federal stimulus funds must be okay when it suits Deficit Dave.

Consider the fact that Deficit Dave’s had two regular sessions of the State Legislature to deal with the deficit problem; he failed to do so. Deficit Dave even had to call the State Senators back into Lincoln for a special session to fix things with the budget when forecasted September tax revenues fell $40 million short. What happened after Deficit Dave spent the tax payer’s hard earned money to bring the State Senators back into the Capitol? Well, Deficit Dave “more or less disappeared” according to comments made to the Lincoln Journal Star. That doesn’t seem like a hard-working Nebraskan, now does it?

While Deficit Dave sure is happy to be on camera, he really should look ashamed since he can’t bother to fix problems in Nebraska.
