Cry Me a River

In a previous blog posting, we quoted a Lincoln Journal Star article about Scott Lautenbaugh’s LB836 as proposing “the unlimited, wholesale extermination of white-tailed deer on private lands by farmers, ranchers and landowners, regardless of season, 365 days a year.” Hunters objected to this plan because the over-hunting could lead to extinction of the deer population.

We incorrectly attributed the following quotes: “That’s really unfortunate. It reinforces the stereotype that hunters are a bunch of violent rednecks who fire first, think later,” and “Hunters should feel proud that they made their voice heard. But only if they’re not shamed first by the loudmouths in their ranks.” To be clear: These are not the words of Senator Lautenbaugh, but the commentary by the reporter. See the link below.

We made a mistake about who said what. We apologize and have already corrected it.

Now Senator Lautenbaugh, where is your apology for authoring, introducing, and taking up legislative time with such an ill-conceived and inane bill? You want us to apologize about us making mistakes? Well, then start apologizing for your own.

How about the budget, Senator? How about Prenatal Care for the unborn? How about supporting working people in need? How about taking on tough issues in tough times? No one would be misquoting you about advocating the slaughter of deer if you had not brought the issue up in the first place.

In short, quit worrying about trivia and get to work!
