Stimulus Funds Are Helping Nebraskans.
Feb 18, 10:39 AM CST
Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of President Barack Obama’s signing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. A year ago, the economy was in a “free fall” situation caused by the years after years of Republican leadership burying their heads in the sand. President Obama wisely placed the stimulus funds at the top of his priorities for his new presidency to save the economy from total collapse.
The stimulus funds created under this act have helped Nebraskans across the state.
•684,000 Nebraskans benefit each from the Making Work Pay tax cut, which puts money back in their pockets each week.
•Teaching jobs in Nebraska were saved by the $233 million, which was used to close the budget gaps in school districts across the state.
•Nebraska first-time homebuyers were able to buy a home thanks to tax credits.
•The state of Nebraska closed 88% of the $290 million budget gap for the 2010 Fiscal year with stimulus funds.
•$17 million has aided local business in Lincoln and Omaha that were unable to procure financing from private sources.
•Roads across the state are being repaired and resurfaced thanks to the stimulus funds.
•The University of Nebraska has been able to create jobs in Nebraska due to funding for multiple research projects from the stimulus funds.
Nebraska Republicans sure like to talk a big game about giving tax cuts to people. When it comes time to put their money where their mouths are, the Nebraska GOP fails to follow through. Johanns, Terry, Fortenberry, and Smith all voted against the creation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which cut taxes for 95% of all Americans.
Nebraskans need to insist that Johanns, Terry, Fortenberry, and Smith answer these questions:
•Why did Republicans not help keep money in your check every month?
•How did Republicans save their job?
•Where did Republicans create new jobs?
Nebraskans should be demanding to know why Nebraska Republicans vote against tax cuts, job creation, and economic growth. Nebraska deserves better leadership than the Party of ‘No.”
