Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Lakers said Thursday he supports legislation to provide prenatal assistance for all low-income pregnant women, including illegal immigrants.
“I think it’s responsible both from a financial and policy point of view,” Lakers said in a phone interview.
His support for the bill places him in direct conflict with Republican Gov. Dave Heineman, who opposes the legislation because it provides benefits for illegal immigrants.”
