Republicans just don’t seem to get it

Following the final passage of the health care bill, many Democratic members of Congress have reported acts of violence, vandalism, and threats including death threats.
Sarah Palin, former Governor of Alaska and John McCain’s Vice Presidential candidate, placed graphics on her Facebook page of twenty members of Congress with cross-hairs over their photos. She also sent a message on Twitter stating, “Don’t Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!” Of the twenty members of Congress “targeted” by Palin on Facebook, at least three are known to have been threatened.
To add further insult to injury, the Republican Party was given an opportunity to sign a joint “civility” statement and refused to do so. DNC Chairman Tim Kaine made an approach to RNC Chairman Michael Steele and asked him to “call on all Americans to respect differences of opinion, to refrain from inappropriate forms of intimidation, to reject violence and vandalism, and to scale back rhetoric that might reasonably be misinterpreted by those prone to such behavior.” Steele and members of the RNC declined.
Republicans should stop this childish behavior and pledge to behave in a manner befitting their elected status. They serve the people, and the people should remember this at the polls.
The Nebraska Democratic Party calls on Mike Johanns, Lee Terry, Jeff Fortenberry, and Adrian Smith to publicly sign a pledge of civility and denounce the violence and threats from the radical right.
