Deficit Dave Fails Again
Mar 28, 04:18 PM CST
A recent report by the Nebraska Department of Labor shows that the unemployment rose statewide from 4.7% in January to 4.8% in February. This is the highest unemployment rate for Nebraska in twenty-two years. According to the Department of Labor, Nebraska has 18,621 fewer jobs than it did this time one year ago.
Despite the “no” votes by Johanns, Terry, Smith, and Fortenberry against the stimulus funds, Nebraska had the opportunity to use the stimulus funds passed by Congress to create new jobs across the state. Even though the other members of the Republican Party thought the stimulus funds were unnecessary and voted against their creation, Deficit Dave put his hand out for $235.6 million in federal stimulus funds.
It’s too bad that Deficit Dave failed to create new jobs and instead used stimulus funds to plug his budget gap and fund the prisons. This money would have created a lot of jobs for Nebraskans. Instead, Nebraska’s unemployment rate continued to rise because Deficit Dave failed the people and didn’t bother to create new jobs or stimulate the economy.
