Senator Howard and Social Workers Team Up to Raise Funds for Pre-Natal Care for Mothers

Senator Gwen Howard announced today that she and the Nebraska Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) have teamed up together to help raise funds to cover the costs of pre-natal care for any pregnant woman who had her coverage dropped by Medicaid.

One World Health Center, 4920 South 30th Street, is generously offering pre-natal care to these women for $5. Senator Howard and NASW will be asking fellow social workers to each donate $5 to help cover the costs of this service by One World Health Center for those women who cannot afford the $5 charge.

“I believe that this is a way that social workers throughout Nebraska can contribute in a small way to help these mothers bring healthy babies into this world. It is unfortunate that this coverage has been cut because it needlessly puts the health of these women and their babies at risk,” Howard said.

This effort will be coordinated through Terry Werner, Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers – Nebraska Chapter.

“I am so proud of the social workers of this state for their willingness to step up and help those in need and do what we all know is right,” Howard added.
