  1. Every Democrat leader should be strapped down Clockwork Orange-style and forced to read Avedon Carol’s article at Kevin Drum’s site, called The Truth Shall Set You Free. Here’s a quote:

“If Democrats would spend more time reading The Left Coaster and Political Animal and less time listening to the tediously bland fraidy-cats they use as political consultants, they would know more, have plenty of verbal karate at their fingertips, and be prepared for all the lies that come out of the RNC. They should at least be ready to point out that Steel and Ehrlich want to talk about Oreos instead of the issues that are of vital importance for the people of the State of Maryland.
“We’ve been offering Democrats, for free, better advice than they’ve been paying for over the last several years, and their response has been to let the GOP convince them that anyone who disagrees with rabid right-wing talking points is some kind of loony. They can dismiss us as mere bloggers even while the Republicans make terrific use of their own “mere” bloggers. They use their resources while convincing Democrats to shun their own. And Democrats fall for it.”

  2. In plain American English, keep evolution in education and intelligent design in Sunday School.

  3. This is my first post. What Joanna failed to mention is that it is not against the law to teach intelligent design in public schools anyways. Also, it is not against the law to teach the bible in public schools, as long as it is not treated as a religion. If this is something she feels deeply about, she should petition the schools to not allow intelligent design to be taught. Some schools have been teaching it. When I was in high school in the 90’s, creation was taught right alongside evolution, and it provided a very insightful look at how others think. I try and remain open minded with my thinking and enjoyed learning both sides. I have realized that both sides are really religious based. You either believe that a higher power created everything, or you believe that we created ourselves. I am a part time science teacher here in Nebraska, and I have seen that people either believe that no higher power created us, or one did, either way it is a belief. I don’t think it is necessarily bad to teach creation or intelligent design since we preach to the public that everybody should be open minded and considerate of others views. I feel that unless we want to indoctrinate the children in one view, we should allow them to be exposed to both prevailing views. This would make them better prepared to be world citizens, and to better understand why others believe the way they do. When I used to live in Indiana, and owned my own political consulting firm, I came across many teachers that wanted the politics left out of debates like this one. The teachers want to be able to teach as they and the school board sees fit without the political side show. BTW, I have an 89% win ratio for electing Democrats to office. I ran for city council at the age of 18 and received 42% of the vote. I feel as if I am a seasoned veteran with politics. The best way for the NDP to get itself together is by engaging the County Chairperson’s and giving them goals for each precinct. If a precinct committeeperson is not up to par with the job they should be performing, than the chair should place a person in that would do the job, even though they wouldn’t have the title. While I am currently not that involved in Nebraska politics yet—I do enjoy seeing how the NDP is similar to the Indiana Democrat Party. I think that Sen. Evan Byah from Indiana is possibly a good candidate for President. I have met him many times and I can say that he seems to have his act together, and is even respected by many Republicans in Indiana because of his 8 years of low taxes as Governor. Feel free to vent on my comments, it is appreciated. You can e-mail comments to joshua.furnish@auab.centaf.af.mil.

  4. First of all, let me suggest to everyone to read your bible. Preferably one in modern English, and having footnotes that acknowledge that there are inconsistencies between sources, and no one definitively correct ancient manuscript. I feel that the more people read the bible, the more people will understand it. I’m not saying you have to believe what it says, just try to understand it, you’ll learn some things.

If your religion prevents you from taking real scientists seriously, that’s ok, we understand. BUT, you should know that CREATIONISM and INTELLIGENT DESIGN are two different things. Creationists say that their religion tells them how and when the earth was created. But, Intelligent Design advocates will tell you things like “the big bang couldn’t have happened spontaneously, so God must have been there to make it happen” and “the precambrian explosion, which was the origin of many different phyla of living things about 500 million years ago, could not possibly have happened within the 5 million year window without God there to make it happen.” Intelligent Design people seem to be founding their own new, weird, science-based religion. They seem to be Evolutionists who insist on inserting an almighty deity into the story.

So… if you think that Genesis is accurate, and that people used to live to be 900 years old, and that animals needed an ark but the plants didn’t, and that Abraham was good to try to kill his son, and that Jacob defeated God (or even an angel) in a wrestling match, then Intelligent Design is probably a theory you do not want your kids to learn.

Yes, I. D. does seem to be intended to blow apart Naturalism, which to a Christian is a good thing, but in this case the enemy of your enemy is not necessarily your friend.

This is one more issue where the president has failed to provide responsible leadership. If he knew what I.D. was really about, he wouldn’t have made comments about teaching it in school.
