How We're Doing
Aug 04, 01:24 PM CST
If you haven’t had a chance to download our 2006 State of the Party Report, I encourage you to do so today.
Yesterday, State Chair Steve Achelpohl sent this email:
A year ago, we rolled out the 93 County Strategy, the roadmap to rebuild our Party and lay the groundwork for Democratic victories this November and beyond. We’ve made great progress in the last year – building county parties, recruiting top-flight candidates up and down the ballot, and modernizing our technology and infrastructure to compete and win in the 21st century.
We’ve prepared a report detailing this progress. Download a copy:

We’re heading into this election season with a full head of steam, thanks to you and countless Democrats across Nebraska. You responded to our call for action last summer, attending trainings throughout the state and becoming actively involved in county party organizations and campaigns. You stepped up and delivered. Thank you.
We’ve accomplished a lot together over the last few years. Our Party is strong: we have top-flight candidates running for office up and down the ballot, we have new and re-invigorated county parties working to take our message into communities across our state, and we’re building an infrastructure that will continue to grow from election to election. We have professionalized our operations, upgraded our technology, and we are poised to compete and win in the 21st century.
Let there be no doubt – the Nebraska Democratic Party is alive and well, and working hard to win back our state. Read the report to get the details:

Thank you for all you do.
Warm Wishes,
Steve Achelpohl

I fail to see the logic in that position.

The one clear difference between Republicans and Democrats this fall – assuming Joe Lieberman meets his deserved fate on Tuesday – will be the Democrats’ desire to change course in Iraq. That is something that will play in every district, and I think the Democratic leadership is starting to realize that – finally. “Stay the course” is terrible policy, and no Democrat should ever utter the phrase.

I was hoping to see something about upcoming “get out the vote” efforts at the local level. There’s been much talk about the training of precinct captains in other developing states. Why not here?

It is important to note that this is an annual report, highlighting what has happened in the last year. Thus, we didn’t focus in on what we have planned specifically for the next few months.
We also don’t want to make our “playbook” available for those who would be very interested in seeing it, if you know what I mean.
We have and are continuing to actively recruit and train volunteers throughout the state. I encourage anyone who is interested in being a precint captain or to volunteer in other ways to go here.

I e-mailed and directed Mr. Thode to the Candidates page on this site, and suggested that any of this good group of Democrat candidates, specifically Hahn and Nelson, would make a superior choice. I also expressed my belief that Fortenberry and Terry need to be fired.
Regarding Mr. Thode’s post, I think Mid-road, from an honest distant perspective, describes the Democrats in this election. The Republicans have gone off into crazy right field, so far that Democrats have had to move to the center. The Democratic Party has become a vehicle for the responsible adults who want to clean up the mess the kids have made.
The man also said the Democrats have a love of losing. That’s a funny way to say it, but is he wrong? The Republicans hold a lot of offices. But things are starting to look different. I see things turning around, in our state, anyway.
