Scheduling Headaches
Oct 20, 10:53 AM CST
I told you a while back that Adrian Smith was dodging his final debate with Scott Kleeb in Grand Island. The debate was scheduled and agreed to by both camps for Monday night. Now Smith is saying that his schedule is just too full to talk about the issues in front of an audience of voters:
Scott Kleeb said Thursday he is willing to debate Adrian Smith Monday night at the Grand Theatre in Grand Island.
But Smith, who held his own walking tour of downtown Grand Island later in the day, said he has other commitments and will not appear to debate Kleeb.
Kleeb, the Democratic nominee for the 3rd District Congressional seat held a short afternoon press conference in front of the Grand Theatre where he asked Smith, the Republican nominee, to appear with him as part of a town hall meeting.
Monday’s town hall meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Theatre, 318 W. Third St.
Kleeb said a scheduled television debate between him and Smith was canceled last month.
Smith, in an interview with The Independent, said the debate is not being held because the press canceled it.
Kleeb said the reason for cancellation was because of logistical problems in getting the two candidates together. As a result, he invited Smith to Monday’s town hall meeting.
Kleeb said it was important for the two candidates to meet with each other in front of voters in Grand Island, the 3rd District’s largest city.

So, here is our list of what Adrian might have on his schedule that would preclude him from debating Smith:
1. His daily Club for Growth conference call.
2. Destroying all of the motorcycle helmets in Gering and Scottsbluff.
3. Trying to figure out why the fact that he is a Republican isn’t gaining traction in the sixth most Republican district in the nation.
4. Shampooing his hair.
5. Smoking cigars, lit with $100 bills, with Pat Toomey and his anti-Nebraska friends at the Club for Growth.
Join Scott at the Grand Theater in Grand Island on Monday night. It will be a great opportunity to hear from a true leader who keeps his commitments.
