  1. Let’s see how the Nebraska delegation is doing on the 100 Hour votes:
    – Terry, Smith, and Fortenberry voted with a near-unanimous majority to institute lobbying reforms.
    – Terry and Smith voted against earmark reforms and pay-as-you-go measures. Terry did so despite his supposed support for both.
    Terry and Smith voted against implementing the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations.
    – Terry, Smith, and Fortenberry voted against raising the minimum wage.

    Terry’s living up to his 97% partisan score.

  2. Not to mention relevancy here but tomorrow, there will be rallies protesting Bush’s anticipated “surge” of probably 30,000 troops in Iraq tonight in his speech tonight. To date, 5 people have signed up to participate in a protest in Lincoln to be held tomorrow at 6p.m. at the Licoln Mall.

    Why are we talking about fixable issues when Bush is determined to engage our young people in probable death?

    The issues of which we adress are worthy, but we should do everything we can to stop Bush’s denial of a success that hasn’t happened yet a failure and demonstrate that even in red state Nebraska, there are a few (more than 5) folks who are willing to show up and defy his mistaken policies.

  3. from 1/10/07 Lincoln Journal Star:
    Dec. 15-18 poll of 430 likely Republican voters showed Bruning ahead in a series of potential matchups involving six other Republicans.

    GOP prospects included in the survey were Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, Rep. Lee Terry, former Omaha Mayor Hal Daub, 2006 Senate nominee Pete Ricketts, former Speaker of the Legislature Kermit Brashear and 2006 Senate candidate David Kramer.

    Not included was Ag Secretary Mike Johanns, the former two-term governor, whose name also has been mentioned.

    Illegal immigration emerged atop the list of key issues facing the state. Eighteen percent of respondents in the phone survey chose that as “the single most important issue facing Nebraska today.”

    Fifteen percent named taxes and 10 percent chose health care.

    Here are some of the matchups in the poll:

    * Bruning, 52 percent; Daub, 20 percent.

    * Bruning, 54 percent; Ricketts, 24 percent.

    * Bruning, 38 percent; Terry, 22 percent.

    * Bruning, 40 percent; Fortenberry, 20 percent.

    * Bruning, 36 percent; Ricketts, 21 percent; Daub, 16 percent, in a three-way race.

  4. How exactly is the “New Way Forward” a new way… or even a way forward?

  5. Vince, certainly interesting numbers. More interesting indeed is the fact that the poll was deliberately framed in Bruning’s favor. One wonders what would happen in a four-way race between Bruning, Daub, Terry, and Ricketts. More disturbing is that Ricketts actually garners such a significant portion of Republican support, still.
