Nebraska Democrats Move Forward with Presidential Caucuses on February 9th
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Democratic Party’s State Executive Committee on Saturday approved the Party’s 2008 Delegate Selection Plan. A new element to this year’s plan is the addition of a Presidential Caucus on February 9, 2008.
The plan will now be submitted to the Democratic National Committee. The Executive Committee’s approval followed a 30-day public comment window, which concluded on April 26th.
Nebraska Democrats will make history on February 9, 2008 as the Party conducts its first-ever Presidential Caucus. The caucus will be binding and will be the determining factor for the statewide presidential preference throughout the delegate selection process. While there will still be a Presidential Primary election conducted in May of 2008, the results of that election will not have any bearing on the Party’s delegate selection process.
“We’re excited to move to a caucus system in Nebraska,” said Nebraska Democratic Party Executive Director Matt Connealy. “The process, we believe, will allow us to play a role on the national level, while at the same time, gather together with other Democrats in neighborhoods throughout the state.”
