When You Can’t Lead, Attack

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Republicans continue to join with their national Party leaders in attacking former Nebraska Governor and two-term U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey. Kerrey is not an announced candidate in any race today.

On September 11, 2007, as the nation paused to remember the terrorist attacks that changed this nation forever, Republican attack dogs were engaging in their usual dirty tricks. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) registered the domain name BigAppleBobKerrey.com on 9/11/07. While the domain was registered anonymously, a search of the IP involved in the transaction led directly to the NRSC.

“Nebraskans are seeking leadership and vision from candidates and elected officials,” said Matt Connealy, Executive Director of the Nebraska Democratic Party. “The Republican Party in Washington and Nebraska offers only the promise of personal attacks and negative campaigns. Just like they rejected Pete Ricketts’ baseless personal attacks on Ben Nelson, Nebraska voters will reject similar attacks on Nebraska Democratic candidates launched by shadowy Washington political operatives acting on behalf of the Nebraska Republican Party.”

These ongoing personal attacks by the Republican Party on Senator Kerrey indicate the tremendous strength of a potential Kerrey candidacy. In addition, these tactics point to a period of great desperation and concern for Nebraska Republicans.
