What is a Blog?

What is Blog for Nebraska?
Blog for Nebraska (BFN) is the official weblog of the Nebraska Democratic Party. It began on November 27, 2004 as a communication tool of the NDP. BFN was the first ever official blog of a Nebraska political party.

What’s a blog?
Blog is short for weblog. It’s an interactive online journal, with the most recent entry on top.

What’s the point?
Blog for Nebraska lets you get up-to-date news and updates directly from NDP headquarters. We also encourage you to join in discussions with other people interested in the Nebraska Democratic Party.

What sort of things get posted on the blog?
Blog entries include posts from NDP staff & leadership, calls to action, reports from volunteers and grassroots leaders across the state, “news roundups” with links to national and local news stories of interest to our community, as well as updates from the candidates across the state.

Why are some words on the blog in bold blue letters?
These words are links to others pages. Clicking the bold words will take you to a new web page. We provide links to relevant stories, articles, or websites. However, the Nebraska Democratic Party does not endorse and is not responsible for the content of external sites linked to from the blog.

Can anyone visit the blog?
Yes, Blog for Nebraska is free and open to the public. Registration is only required for posting a comment or event. The blog is a spirited forum for political discussion, and the hub of the Nebraska Democratic Party online community. Twenty-four hours a day, people from all across the state—and the country—are debating, organizing, arguing, joking, and bringing innovative ideas to our organization.

How do I join the online discussion and community?
Just click on “Comments” at the bottom of each blog entry. This will open a page where you can add your own comment.

What’s the difference between an entry and a comment?
Entries appear on the Blog for Nebraska main page and are posted only by NDP staff. Comments appear in the threads and can be posted by anyone.

Can I write anything I want?
We encourage you to stay on topic and maintain a civil discourse with others in the community; however, you are free to engage in discussion on most subjects. NDP staff have the ability to remove or edit comments that are rude, trolling, derogatory, discriminatory, libelous, offensive, violate copyright or include inappropriate language.

Can I change my comment once I’ve posted it?
No. Your comment is saved permanently to the site, indexed by various search engines and can be read by anyone. Think before you post.

Does anyone actually read the comments?
Thousands of people do—including leadership and staff of the Nebraska Democratic Party. Many slogans, events, and activities began with suggestions in these threads. It’s a great way to participate in the organization, regardless of where you live or what you do.

How do I find an old entry or thread?
All entries are categorized by date and topic. A browsing list can be found on the right side of the blog.
